Astrogeologist – profession of the future…

On April 8, 2020 Pyotr Vityaz, chief of staff of Apparatus of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, academician Sergey Zolotoy, Director of the Scientific and Engineering Republican Unitary Enterprise “Geoinformation Systems” of The NAS of Belarus, and Dmitry Zakaliukin, Deputy Director for satellite communications development of “Precise Electromechanics Factory” Republican Production Unitary Enterprise, head of the Belintersat project discussed “Development of the space industry in Belarus at the contemporary stage” at the National press center of the Republic of Belarus. The press conference was dedicated to the international day of Aviation and Cosmonautics.

The main topic of the press-conference was the development of space technologies and promising space projects.

The Republic of Belarus uses sensing of the Earth system and is involved in creating a higher-resolution satellite. As a result, Peleng and other optical enterprises, whose activities are aimed at implementation of the Union space programs with Roscosmos and the governments of Kazakhstan and Ukraine are developing. “Belintersat” is engaged in promising projects in the African region. Furthermore, it collaborates on projects with the state enterprise “Space communications”, iosc “Intersputnik”, as well as with its long-standing partner – the People’s Republic of China in the field of low-orbit satellites and HTC.

Taking into account that the space industry is an integral driver of other areas, not only in the Republic of Belarus, but also worldwide, the head of the Belintersat project, Dmitry Zakaliukin, emphasized the importance of professional training in the space industry. Belintersat closely cooperates with the Belarusian State University. Organization also plans to employ specialists from the Academy of communication. During the conference, the participants noted that it is necessary to begin staff training at school. At the same time, astrogeology – mining rare earth metals on asteroids, should be considered as a promising area for the future.
